In a Coco Mommy's World movie nights are fun and easy dates with your spouse or family outing events...we go to see movies that are entertaining, amusing, ... and can take your mind off of the stress at hand.

The actors, producers, directors..etc.. that make up the Academy, decide upon an annual list of the best and brightest in movies.... whether or not they are in touch with the normal society around them is often questionable...clearly, the populace of 2008 Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is not even on the same planet as the rest of us.

For the exception of the movie Juno - which has rallied due to the Golden Globe attention... was there a single movie on their best picture list that someone other than a film critic... and those who think they should be a film critic... actually saw? (for a list of this year nominees go here: oscars )

Was it so long ago that movies like Lord of the Rings, Rocky, Shakespeare in Love, even The Godfather were looked favorably upon by the Academy, movie goers, as well as box office receipts? People actually saw movies before they were nominated and could watch the awards rooting for their favorites!

Sometimes... we just get the feeling that Hollywood is paternalistic to anyone outside of the movie biz.. after all, they know what is best for us... "us".. the people that actually buy their own designer clothes and handbags... and generally look at pregnancy before marriage as a bad thing.

We know, we know... we have the People's Choice Awards... but let us just say... other than the very missed red carpet fashion critiques... maybe the revised or cancelled Oscar ceremony due to the mafia-sque writer's strike would not be a bad thing...

Our prediction is that if The Oscars make it to production ... the Academy ... as well as ABC will need to hope and pray that American Idol, or CSI anything isn't on an opposing channel. Or the ratings of the 80th Academy Awards will be as minuscule as the audience that have seen any of the movies being recognized.

Rant over.

Cruise control for Katie Holmes

Is Katie Holmes pregnant with Tom Cruise's child?

From Now Magazine:
Since marrying Scientologist Tom Cruise and becoming a mum, former Dawson's Creek star Katie Holmes, 28, hasn't been sent any movie scripts that take her fancy.

So her 45-year-old husband's offering to produce her projects.

'Kate is a little disillusioned with acting at the moment, especially as she's taken to being a mother so wholeheartedly,' a source tells The Daily Express.

'She's not interested by many of the roles she is being offered so Tom has stepped in with some ideas of his own.'

The Mission Impossible star believes audiences will be wowed if the couple collaborate on-screen.

'He has one project he wants both of them to star in and another he will produce with Katie in the lead,' says the source.

'He wants to build a whole production company around her.'

No... absolutely no control issues here... can you say: Svengali?

The definition of Svengali?
The word "Svengali" has entered the language meaning a person who, with evil intent, manipulates another into doing what is desired.

What's this? Is Tom Cruise's pic in the definition???

Surprise, surprise...

Poor Katie, as if that haircut wasn't bad enough....

Made of Honor

From Grey's Anatomy Insider:

According to Variety, Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey has signed a deal to star as the lead in Columbia Pictures’ romantic comedy Made of Honor, being produced by Neal Moritz’s Original film.

A director has not yet been hired for the project. The film is a male-driven romantic comedy about a guy (Patrick Dempsey) whose dream girl asks unexpectedly him to be her maid of honor. In an attempt to win her heart, he agrees.

Made of Honor is based on a speculative script by Adam Sztykiel and was given the green light after a rewrite by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont.

27 Dresses

From Zap2it.com:

Katherine Heigl has had difficulties with love on "Grey's Anatomy," but that's nothing compared to the plight of her character in the upcoming romantic comedy "27 Dresses."

According to Variety, Heigl has signed on to play a woman who has experienced the honor of being a bridesmaid on 27 occasions. Her latest bridesmaid gig is for her sister, who happens to be marrying the man that the bridesmaid loves.

The film, financed by Spyglass, will be directed by "Step Up" helmer Anne Fletcher from a script by Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada") with a polish by Dana Fox ("The Wedding Date"). Shooting will begin in May in New York and Rhode Island.

Fun - feel good... after everything we go through... sounds lovely to us!
